BitTorrent Native BTT Token Is Accepted by CoinPayments

Users can now use BTT token to pay for BitTorrent’s premium services

On February 7, 2019, BitTorrent shared information in the press release that its own token, named BTT (BitTorrent Token) and supported by the Tron protocol, had been accepted by CoinPayments’ payment processor.

BitTorrent is a provider of a decentralized peer-to-peer transfer protocol. About 6 months ago, the company was bought by Tron startup which aims at building the infrastructure for a truly decentralized Internet. Bittirrent launched its BTT token in January, 2019. It was the first completely developed step to tokenize the company’s content sharing space.

The press release has noted BitTorrent started collaboration with CoinPayments some time before, and the companies have come to agreement about supporting Tron (TRX), Bitcoin (BTC) and Binance Coin (BNB) payments for BitTorrent’s premium services. Now, support for BTT has been added, and the users of the torrent client can now use this token to pay for BitTorrent and µTorrent Pro subscriptions, which offer the function of watching and previewing torrents as they download, HD-quality streaming and automatic anti-virus protection.

The roadmap for Tron and BitTorrent’s mutual integration named “Project Atlas” reportedly aims to develop a decentralized content distribution service using cryptocurrency.

Justin Sun – CEO of BitTorrent and founder of Tron, has said that the partnership with CoinPayments is an effort to “make BTT token liquid in the online marketplace before [the token] is fully integrated into our desktop and mobile products.”
