On August 17, 2018, Hard Fork wrote that a porn website Tube8 has reported about plans to launch a blockchain-based platform where its customers will be able to earn crypto tokens when they watch and interact with Tube8 videos.

Tube8, which is a subsidiary of Pornhub and has more than 150 million page visits each month, revealed it arranged with Vice Industry Token (VIT) about a partnership. VIT will develop a tokenize platform for Tube8 and launch it by the end of the 2018. Users will be able to get token-based rewards for their activity on the website.

Tube8 spokesperson Robin Turner explained: “As opposed to having to fork over money to consume content, which some sites require, our users will get paid to consume our free content.”

However, Tube8’s aims to tokenize users’ activity could face problems of scale. VIT is an ERC20 token which is based on the Ethereum blockchain. At the moment, this blockchain can process about 15 transactions per second. Taking into account present number daily visitors, the best way to tokenize the service without blockchain overloading is to run the reward system on a centralized server.
